Dr. Leah Keating

she/her

Leah is the founder of Space Within Psychology Clinic (SWPC). She is a clinical psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at York University, her M.A. in Psychology at Carleton University, and her B.A. (Honours) in Psychology at the University of Ottawa. She has trained and worked in private practice and hospital-based settings, including a trauma therapy program, an eating disorders program, and a gender identity clinic. Currently, she works at the Operational Stress Injury Clinic at St. Joseph's Health Care London.

Leah provides evidence-based assessments and psychotherapy to individual adults and couples. She works with a variety of issues, including PTSD and the impacts of trauma, gender dysphoria and transitioning, eating disorders/body image, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, identity, relationship challenges, self-esteem, and emotion regulation. She supports transgender clients in seeking gender-affirming medical interventions, and she is a qualified second assessor for transition-related surgery. Her therapy approach is collaborative, and it integrates her training in cognitive-behavioural therapy, cognitive processing therapy, exposure and response prevention, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, internal family systems, psychodynamic therapy, and emotion-focused therapy. Her practice is 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming. She is  registered with the WSIB Community Mental Health Program and Medavie Blue Cross (for members of Canadian Forces, the RCMP, and Veteran Affairs).

Leah has conducted research on queer and trans people's experiences of trauma and therapy, on women’s recovery from trauma abuse, and on the development and treatment of eating disorder symptoms. She has previously worked as contract faculty. She provides supervision to psychology trainees and to other mental health professionals.

Stephanie

Stephanie Cosma

she/her

Stephanie works with clients to navigate difficult life changes, change old, stuck feelings, and explore and develop parts of their self previously undiscovered or ignored. Her practice is evidence-based and rooted in empathy, curiosity, and openness. Stephanie views her clients as experts in their own experience and fosters an environment where their needs are valid and their feelings are important. She works within an emotion-focused framework and also draws on dialectical-behavioral and cognitive-behavioural orientations based on each individual client’s needs, goals and preferences. She works collaboratively with clients in therapy, and provides a safe, accepting space for them to address emotional hurts and make sense of inner conflicts so they can begin to come out of their shell and thrive. Together, they explore the client’s personal patterns and environmental factors that contribute to emotional pain, and find sources of empowerment. Her perspective is intersectional, trauma informed, and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Stephanie has completed her clinical training at the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction, North York General Hospital’s Adult Eating Disorders Program, the Centre for Student Development and Counselling at Ryerson University, and St. Michael’s Hospital Department of Family and Community Medicine. She is a senior doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Ryerson University, conducting SSHRC-funded research on contemporary masculinity at the Sexuality Hub: Integrating Feminist Theory (SHiFT) Lab. Her academic work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences and university guest lectures.

At SWPC, Stephanie's work is supervised by Dr. Leah Keating. She provides individual assessment and psychotherapy. She also provides referrals for clients pursuing medical gender-affirming interventions.
